The perfect hotel for cool summer experiences on Lake Lucerne

Your perfect starting point for unforgettable vacation days in Lucerne

Our Villa Maria is located very close to Lake Lucerne, with numerous places to go swimming. There are also many cool events nearby. Summer ahoy!

Swim for free in the Lucerne lake basin

There are numerous places to swim around the Lucerne lake basin, some of which you have to pay for, while others are open to the public and free of charge. You can refresh yourself for free at the Lido meadow (10 minutes' walk) or at the meadow on Carl-Spitteler-Quai (7 minutes' walk). Incidentally, our partner hotelBeau Séjour is located next to Spitteler-Quai, where you can enjoy a delicious summer drink after cooling off. You should be careful when entering the lake, as the stones can be slippery and the ground uneven!

Other public bathing areas in/around Lucerne include Ufschötti, Richard-Wagner-Wiese, Villa Krämerstein, Kastanienbaum.

A lake swim with an entry fee

Swimming facilities where you pay an entrance fee offer you better infrastructure and more safety thanks to lifeguards. These include Schwimmbad Lido Luzern, which you can reach after a 15-minute walk along the quay. The historic Seebad Luzern lido (pictured) is located on the quay between the Grand Hotel National and Mandarin Oriental Palace. This swimming facility can also be reached on foot within 10 minutes or after a short bus ride (2 stops).

Other lakefront swimming facilities with an entrance fee in/around Lucerne: Tribschen, Rotsee-Badi, Waldbad Zimmeregg

Music festivals on Lake Lucerne

You've probably heard of the Lucerne Art and Convention Center (KKL) designed by world-famous architect Jean Nouvel. It is located on the lake right next to the train station. The Lucerne Art Museum, several restaurants and event halls can all be found under the enormous roof. The KKL also hosts the renowned Lucerne Summer Festival.

The KKL also hosts selected concerts from the Lucerne Live festival (pictured). However, the summer event mainly takes place outside and stretches along a large part of the quay. The free, open-air Funk am See festival also offers a view of Lake Lucerne and is held every two years on the Lido meadow, just around the corner from Hotel Villa Maria.

Pot some minigolf balls (but not in the lake!)

The minigolf course at Lido Lucerne is, like so many other things, very close to Villa Maria. Here you can play your rounds in a relaxed atmosphere, or take advantage of their billiard, ping-pong and foosball tables. If you're hungry, there are savoury snacks such as French fries and of course you don't have to go thirsty either.

The young team regularly organizes live concerts and shows selected soccer matches. Please note that the minigolf course adjusts its opening hours depending on the season, so be sure to check the website beforehand!

Enjoy summer for a little less with the Lucerne Guest Card

As a Villa Maria guest in Lucerne, you will receive a digital guest card with many benefits before your arrival: free bus rides to summer bars, 10% discount at Lucerne mini golf, and 3 for 2 balls of Alpi-Gelati.

Summer bars with lake views

Are you looking for a cozy outdoor bar with a view of the lake? In Lucerne, there are several summer bars along the lakefront behind the train station. The bars serve wine and much more besides.

The first bar is located just behind the KKL at Inseli; go a few steps furthere and there is Buvette Volière from the local radio station 3FACH (picture).

At Ufschötti there is the "Buvette Strandleben" and a little further on is the summer café at the Richard Wagner Museum.

Cooling down in front of the Lion Monument

You can get delicious ice cream - in Switzerland we call it glacé - at the Gelateria dell'Alpi while soaking in a view of the famous Lion Monument. The ice cream parlor is part of the Alpineum coffee bar and is located right next to Lucerne's rocky landmark. The team makes gelati and sorbetti without any artificial nonsense, either in a cup or freshly baked waffle. Really, really good or simply "Happiness in a Cornetto!"

To get these tasty refreshments from Hotel Villa Maria, you can either go by bus (15 minutes) or on foot along the lake (22 minutes). And if you want to get rid of some extra coins, throw one of them into the water in front of the Lion Monument and make a wish...

A very relaxing hotel room

Our Villa Maria offers you modern, well-equipped rooms where you can freshen up after sunbathing and relax after your adventures on the lake. Cool drinks are available in the free mini-bar in the hotel room, your nose will enjoy great Aqua dell'Elba care products in the shower, and the bed will be even more comfortable after an eventful day.
