Hotel Villa Maria Lucerne

History

A look back

The Villa Maria Pension was built in 1950 by Marie Steinegger-Wetter. She was also known for the former Hotel Bernerhof on Seidenhofstrasse in Lucerne, which she successfully managed during the Second World War, and the later legendary restaurant Chuchichäschtli. She had hired P. A. Furger as her architect and created an astonishingly timeless building with him.

The Villa Maria guesthouse, built in 1950, was added to the existing older villas to the east of Hausermatte, which was not yet built over at that time, by dividing a plot of land. The building represents a characteristic architecture of the post-war period: three-storey stone building under a gable roof, simple regular fenestration by two- or three-light windows with muntin divisions, extension of the attic with large trailing dormers. The guesthouse, which was originally only on the ground floor and first floor, was extended to the first floor in 1970.

The Pension Villa Maria has been largely preserved in its original state, supplemented with the conversions of 1970. The Pension Villa Maria represents quality post-war architecture with good craftsmanship details, which has been very well preserved in its entirety.
